Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

Hello and welcome to my fundraising page for Parkinson's UK.

A couple of years ago, my father Ron Abbott, was diagnosed with Parkinson's after noticing some of the usual symptoms such as mild tremors and slowness of movement. But he has also been affected by other symptoms such as problems sleeping and increased anxiety and these plus many other symptoms are often invisible to others.

It's not until you look closer at this disease that you begin to appreciate it can affect people in many other ways and with different rates of progress. There are actually over 40 symptoms of Parkinson's and currently it's an incurable disease.

But Parkinson's UK has been researching for ways to limit and reduce the impact on sufferers and need money to keep investing in research to make Parkinson's sufferers lives better.

So I've decided to run the London Marathon on 21st April 2024 to help raise as many funds as I can. If you can spare just a few pounds, every little helps and my father and I would be extremely grateful for your support, as will all those diagnosed with Parkinson's.

If you want more information, please take a look at their website - www.parkinsons.org.uk

Thank you.

My updates

Done!

Tuesday 23rd Apr
A massive thank you to everyone who contributed to my fundraising efforts for Parkinson's. It's very much appreciated.

My company will add another £1K so the total will be over £2.5K in the end.

As usual, I reached the early 20's (22 miles to be exact) when my legs really started hurting and I had to throw in a few stomping walks to get to the end but out of the 3 LM's I've done this was my quickest.

I managed 4 hours, 21 mins and 34 seconds.

Very lucky with the weather - chilly but perfect for running and it stayed dry which is a big bonus.

Big thanks to my wife Penny for supporting me and cheering me around. She managed to catch me at all 3 pre-arranged points and get my salt drinks handed over ;-)

Thanks again...Kevin.

Thank you to my sponsors
