Walk for Parkinson's 100 mile challenge 2025

Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

I’m taking part in Walk for Parkinson’s 100 Mile Challenge to help fund specialist care for people with Parkinson’s.

It's reassuring to know that there are resources and support groups available to help James when he feels he needs them, so this is me doing a tiny bit to support that.

My updates

No pressure!

Monday 21st Apr
I only signed up to do this Saturday afternoon and I've already updated my target twice... I can't thank those that have sponsored me enough.

As you all probably know, my husband James was diagnosed with young onset Parkinson's in June 2023 at the age of just 39, though we recognise now that symptoms had been present for a good 3 or 4 years before this.

His diagnosis came just 3 months before we were due to get married: he was struggling with muscle stiffness, tremors, pain, slowness of movement and reduced dexterity, something he found difficult to deal with as a modeller. Medication has helped improve his symptoms and he's due to start another medication soon, so fingers crossed for further improvements!

He's never let his diagnosis stop him though. He struggled modelling in P4 so he went up a scale as bigger trains were easier to handle (meds mean he can handle smaller trains again!). He bought an automatic (admittedly after lots of nagging!) so he can continue driving (though meds mean he can cope with a manual again! Yay!).  He continues to do things with the kids (though playing Operation is out now. Shame really as it's the only thing we're guaranteed to always beat him at!) and he's still working as normal.

I'm unbelievably proud of how he has handled his diagnosis. I know he struggles with it some days, but he carries on as normal as much as possible. He has Parkinson's but hasn't let it define him. We know there is no cure, but he still faces everything life throws at him head on and continues to be an amazing husband and father.

I'm doing this for him.

Thank you to my sponsors
