Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

I’m taking part in Walkies for Parkinson’s to fund Parkinson's UK's groundbreaking research into better treatments and a cure.

There’s no cure for Parkinson’s. Yet.

I'm going to be walking at least 30 miles with my dog Parsley. He is a 12 year old staffy cross, but don't let his age fool you. He can still rack up the miles when he wants to! We want to add a little joy into the lives of everyone, so watch this space for a surprise for our fundraising.

I lost my father in law in June 2020 to Dementia. Vascular, frontotemporal and Lewy Bodies. He had been diagnosed with Parkinson's for many years prior to this, and only had confirmation that he had dementia in Feb 2020.

He was a very kind man. A true gentleman. He loved dogs, long walks, pork pies and a cheeky pint! He was a baker by trade, and had his own family bakery in North Walsham which he ended up closing due to ill health. He kept himself busy and always made sure the numerous dogs he had (either his or others he was looking after!) always had good walkies in the woods.

I want to do this in his memory because although his life story was not all singing and dancing, he wasn't famous and nor was he ever wanting to be! His story was calm. He loved his life. His wife, his sons, and especially his dogs. I want raise money to keep people like him around, and feeling like themselves for as long as possible.
