Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

February 19, 2024, life changed for me.  I was diagnosed with Parkinson's.

It's an illness that is becoming one of the fastest growing, affecting people at any age.

There is no cure, there's no definite reason what has caused it. There are many symptoms. This is one of symptoms I have, a tremor that runs down my right side.  It makes me feel self conscious at work and the theatre for example.  Hoping that I'm not annoying people with my constant shaking.

Having Parkinson's, I have a care team who will decide with me if I need different medications and support.

Exercise is good for me so I thought I'd combine exercise and fundraising.  I will be walking 100 miles throughout May.

Any funds raised will help Parkinson's UK .  This may be for research, support from dedicated Parkinson's nurses for example.

When I was diagnosed I had so much support from family, friends and work.

I have one more ask.  If anyone could please sponsor me during my 100 mile jaunt round Dunfermline.  I would be so grateful.

Thank you for any help you can provide.  Kx

100 Miles.... The last post....

Tuesday 27th May
I finally completed the 100 mile challenge tonight.  Luckily the sun shone most days!

I have really enjoyed this challenge and it has given me the boot up the backside to get out there and have a daily wander.

Thank you to everyone for their kind words and generous donations.  The funds raised, £610 will help Parkinson's UK with research and carers.  Kx

Blue skies all the way

Friday 16th May
Halfway through the challenge and still enjoying the daily strolls.  The sun has been a big incentive.  Noticing the pain from my legs is lessening and I'm sleeping better.  62 miles completed.  Here's a quick snap, blue skies all the way.

50!

Tuesday 13th May
50 Miles!  Completed 50 miles today.  I am delighted with my progress and getting back into walking.  Here's to the next 50.

Although she's not taking part, she's always at the door waiting for me.  Here's a snap of Romy sunbathing.

Saturday strolling

Saturday 10th May
The weather is absolutely gorgeous.  Walked to the hairdresser's in Rosyth, got a few snaps of the church.

After the hairdresser's, ended up in the Glen for a short stroll.

Another good day 4.36 miles.  Really enjoying these walks and getting back into taking snaps.

Week 1 over

Wednesday 7th May
That's week 1 over with 28 miles clocked up.  Feeling fine. Another snap helping me on my way.

21 miles done

Monday 5th May
Day five and 21 done.  The weather is being kind.  Mood is good but struggling to get up early, so moved my first walk until lunch time.

Another snap, the view from my street.

Day 3

Saturday 3rd May
So today saw me up at 7.30 for my first walk of the day, followed by a walk to the train station.  I almost gave into temptation and got the bus but managed to resist.

Got the train to Edinburgh to see Scottish Ballet performing, what a lovely afternoon and added some further steps.

A couple of snaps to post of Edinburgh university.

Day 1, 1st May The Challenge Begins

Thursday 1st May
Walk 100 miles throughout May for Parkinson's UK.  I thought, I can do this.  And then I remembered during my practice walks just how hilly Dunfermline is. Every route leads to another hill.  But I can do this and I will do it.

Parkinson's UK are fundraising to help fund specialist care for people with Parkinson's.  I'll benefit from this in the future .

My first day is complete with a total of 4 miles.  My target is 3.5 daily.

If you would like to help me reach 100 miles, please donate using the links in this post.

Thanks for donations and kind words received so far.  Your support means a lot to me.  Kx

Practice Over

Wednesday 30th Apr
That's the practice over and tomorrow the challenge begins.  Looking forward to starting and seeing those miles accumulating.

27/4 - 28/4

Monday 28th Apr
Had the last two days off due to stomach bug and working late.  Alarm is reset to get the trainers back on and resume stepping. Have been feeling good otherwise.  Stiffness getting better and mood is lighter.

More practice completed

Saturday 26th Apr
Two more days of walking.  Especially good today with 5 miles completed.  Ended up in Pittencrieff park in Dunfermline.  Managed to get some photos of the cherry blossoms.  It felt good to have a wander and take some snaps.  Have been feeling like my old self over the last week.

Day 3 Training

Thursday 24th Apr
Head is starting to get into gear.  3.93 miles today and started 7.30am.  Finally started on asking for sponsorship.  People are kind, I really thought I'd get no sponsors.

View of the bridges today, very lucky to get this view.

Training Day 2

Wednesday 23rd Apr
Managed to drag myself out of bed and get the trainers on and out by 7.45.  Walked 1.5 miles.  After work clocked up another 2 miles, legs don't hurt too bad but balance was a bit off with the odd stagger.  .  Small steps......

Getting ready for May....

Monday 21st Apr
Day 1 training - first walk completed and of course it started raining.  Luckily not too heavy.  Pedometer app logged 2.71 miles.  Will try this walk again tomorrow, I thought it would be lower.

Thank you to my sponsors
