Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Parkinson’s is a disease which affects and damages parts of the brain progressively over time. The most common symptom associated with the condition is involuntary shaking and slow movements. However, Parkinson’s can also affect a person psychologically leading to anxiety, insomnia and poor memory.It is not yet known why Parkinson’s begins, or how to prevent it meaning this difficult condition can affect anyone. In the UK alone, 1 in 37 people will be diagnosed at some stage in their life - a scary statistic for a lot of people.
Watching a loved one live through the symptoms and stages of a condition such as this can be extremely difficult, especially knowing that there is nothing you could do to help them in their struggle. For this reason, I will be running the Great North Run 2024 for Parkinson’s UK. This is a fantastic charity who aim to accelerate breakthroughs in research, support families, and promote the understanding of Parkinson’s. Any donations towards such a great cause would be greatly appreciated!
