Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK?
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I’m taking part in the TCS 2026 London Marathon for Parkinson’s UK, and I would be incredibly grateful for your support.
Two years ago, I set myself the challenge of running the Belfast Marathon in aid of Princess Alice Hospice. I promised myself I’d forget about future marathons… but here we are again, taking on the London Marathon for Parkinson’s UK.
At the end of 2023, our family received the news that my dad, Mr Alan Derek Beams, had been diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson’s, a huge shock to us all. Dad is still very much Dad: my go-to handyman, chauffeur, gym buddy, and most importantly, my pal.
He’s as fit as ever and regularly gets compliments on his physique in the River Club sauna (Mum, watch out!). Jokes aside, Dad, this one is very much for you.
Parkinson’s impacts many families. In the UK alone, around 166,000 people are living with the condition, with thousands more believed to be undiagnosed. That’s why raising awareness is so important , to ensure everyone can access the help, support, and understanding they deserve.
Parkinson’s UK is an organisation driving real change: funding vital research into new treatments, providing emotional and practical support, campaigning for better healthcare, and bringing people together to build a strong, supportive community.
Medical advancements are improving every day, and with the growing support of AI and innovation, treatments will continue to get better.
