Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
In my 50th year, I've decided to take on a challenge that feels both exciting and slightly terrifying... I'm going to attempt the London Marathon.
Not because I'm a runner.
Not because I'm chasing a personal best.
But because I'm running for my dad.
A couple of years ago, my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Having spent his whole life being incredibly active, it feels like a particularly cruel disease. This is a man who ran the London Marathon multiple times in the 1990s, with an astonishing personal best of 3 hours 15 minutes.
Back then, he was the one pounding the streets of London. Now, it's my turn.
I can confidently say I won't be troubling his marathon times. In fact, just getting round the course will be an achievement for me! But every mile of training and every step on race day will be for him and for the millions of people and families affected by Parkinson's.
Parkinson's UK does incredible work funding research, providing support and campaigning for better care and treatments. If my marathon can help raise even a small amount towards that work, all the early mornings, sore legs and long training runs will be worth it.
So, as I enter my 50th year and begin this journey, I'd be hugely grateful for any support, whether that's a donation, sharing this post, or simply cheering me on from the sidelines.
Dad, this one's for you. ❤️
