Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
In September last year, my dad got an official diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease after having symptoms for nearly 2 years. He now struggles daily with his fine motor skills, speech and mobility and it has affected his life considerably. For example, he struggles to cut up food, he is not able to walk distances to pick his grandchildren up from school, not able to hold a conversation without several tremors and not able to drive long distances without being in pain.
Parkinson’s is a complex brain condition that has no cure and gets worse over time. It has more than 40 symptoms, some of which are mentioned above. Parkinson's is on the rise. Someone is diagnosed every 20 minutes in the UK today. By 2050, the number of people with Parkinson’s worldwide will double to 25 million.
Parkinson’s UK is a charity that’s here to support every Parkinson’s journey, every step of the way and since dad’s diagnosis, we have been given lots of support from several agencies.
From searching for a cure and campaigning for better health and care, to funding research into groundbreaking new treatments and running life-changing support services. It’s all driven by one mission: improving dad’s life with Parkinson’s.

Great Manchester Run - Half Marathon
Friday 2nd Jan On the 31st May 2026, I’ll be running my first ever half marathon for my dad in order to raise as much money as possible for Parkinson’s UK. Any donations, no matter how big or small, would be greatly appreciated to go to such a great cause - to help research more about this nuero-degenerative disease and to hopefully find medicines to slow down the process and help gain more independence back.
