Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page! I’m taking part in the 2027 TCS London Marathon for Parkinson’s UK on Saturday 24 April and would really appreciate your support!
In 2011, when I was 5 years old, my Grandma was diagnosed with Parkinson's. It is a progressive, neurodegenerative condition, that damages dopamine producing neurons, resulting in a wide range of symptoms and varying experiences for sufferers. Its later stages are accompanied by frequent scares caused by physical immobility and cognitive deterioration. For the past 15 years, as it has slowly stolen my Grandma's independence, dignity, and cognitive function, the disease has affected the whole family.
While there is currently no cure, Parkinson's UK is campaigning for research into groundbreaking treatments, better care and running life-changing support services. It is thanks to their investments in treatments and clinical trials, that my Grandma has access to medication that slow or manage her symptoms. Additionally, during the earlier stages of her condition, she attended singing and exercise classes, as well as coffee mornings, run by Parkinson's UK volunteers, that provided a sense of community through what for many people is a very isolating experience.
Running plays a big part in mine and my family's lives, and with both my parents and my brother having already completed the Marathon distance many times between them, I am incredibly excited (although a little bit nervous) that it is finally my turn! To have the opportunity to take on this challenge in London, while raising money for a cause that is so personal to me and my family makes it even more meaningful. I know my Grandma will be very proud.
If you are able to, I'd be so grateful for any donations, big or small, to help me reach my fundraising target and support Parkinson's UK. Hopefully I will see some of you out there on the course in London too!
Thank you to my sponsors
