Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

Hello,


I’m running this 10K for Parkinson’s UK. Two things I’m unfamiliar with.


I didn’t know much about Parkinson’s until a really dear family member was recently diagnosed.


Hoping to raise awareness as well as some money. Please donate if you can.


Race is at Hampton Court on 11 October.

Parkinson’s is a complex brain condition that has no cure and gets worse over time. It has more than 40 symptoms, from tremor and pain to anxiety. And Parkinson's is on the rise. Someone is diagnosed every 20 minutes in the UK today. By 2050, the number of people with Parkinson’s worldwide will double to 25 million.

Parkinson’s UK is the charity that’s here to support every Parkinson’s journey, every step of the way. Wherever you’re from, whatever you need.

From searching for a cure and campaigning for better health and care, to funding research into groundbreaking new treatments and running life-changing support services. It’s all driven by one mission: improving life with Parkinson’s.

8 and a bit and massive support

Sunday 20th Sep
Thank you thank you thank you for all if your most generous donations. Race day really is catching up with us. Strange to think it may all be over in three weeks. Correction, it will.

I have been really blown away by the people who sent through running tips, have witnessed the sweat, and have donated. Every “runner” i’ve spoken with has told me it’s not easy, some say not fun, which makes your donations all the more gratefully received.

Today was  over 8k and was the longest run pre-race! We’re getting there!

First ever 5K run without stopping

Sunday 30th Aug
It’s now six weeks until race day!

This week’s achievement included running a full 5K without stopping! 

However, last weekend I came back in a collapsed heap and felt like I was going to be sick. So it’s swings and roundabouts as they say.

We just have to keep going.

12 hours from sharing

Wow, after sharing my page i’ve already had some wonderful people donate >£350! Thank you to each and every one of you. You have helped me meet and beat my target and also have the courage to increase the threshold

While I know 10K isn’t one of the BIG distances, it is for me (i only have little legs) And all of these donations will really make a difference to the lives of those with affected by Parkinson’s.

Saturday 15th Aug
When you put it like that, it’s 8 weeks to go which means I’m 1/3 of my way through the training plan.

Can run, just about for 4K… but it’s hard. I’m not a runner and get bored easily, any advice warmly (sweatily) received.

Today’s run was a mash up of 80s music and LOTR. 

But today is also a big moment, I’m now sharing my fundraising page, which means it’s going to feel a lot more real. If you’ve read this or visited my page, thank you. And a very big thank you if you have donated.
