Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
I’m taking part in Walkies for Parkinson's with Jack throughout October to help fund specialist Parkinson’s care to thousands more people who urgently need it.
As you may be aware, my lovely Dad suffered from Parkinson's Disease for nearly a decade before passing away February 2025. Watching him slowly lose control of his body and mind has got to be one of the hardest things to do. The person who helped raise me, taught me so many life skills and was always there to help me, slowly became a fragile shadow of himself, losing his confidence, ability to speak or even feed himself.
This is why I'm fundraising, to help find a cure so others don't have to suffer or witness this cruel disease.

Monday 27th OctWhat a flippin brilliant day we've had today! As we're staying in our lovely friend, Sue's caravan in Talkin for a few days over half term we decided to head up to Dumfries. I bought Beth an accordion for her birthday and it needs a service and a fair bit of TLC and there's a chap up there who can do just that! After an insightful chat, he treat us to a little rendition before we headed off to Heath hall for a wander around the woodland, it belongs to Scottish Forestry Commission and there's a lot of logging and replanting going on.
We headed back via Tarff, Caerlaverock Castle and Caledonia Park Designer Outlet where we had THE BEST EVER hot chocolate from the Lindt shop ....

Friday 17th OctAs I sit down to write my blog today I realise I haven't posted all week! To be fair, it's been a pretty hectic week; still got our walks in, just forgot to tell anyone!! 🙄 Don't suppose it matters too much, it's being out in the fresh air with the pooch that matters the most👍
Today we just went around our local park and visited the doggy park called Jubilee Bark which is a fairly recent addition.... as you can see from the photo, Jack wasn't particularly impressed.. the problem being that there were already dogs in there and, as he's very antisocial, he wouldn't go in! 🤣 So we just did a circuit of outer park with a couple of up and over the hill which, as my screaming calves reminded me, we haven't done for a while!
It's still beautifully mild here though, it messes with your mind as you look out and see a decidedly dodgy sky so wrap up then head out and within minutes you're peeling layers off!

Sunday 12th OctIt's Sunday and normal service has nearly resumed; the Pooch, the Hubster, the Beach but no Greggs! An Arrighi's coffee! It was a lot stronger than I'm used to but my word, it was delicious! Everyone knows how good their ice cream is but seriously... go try their coffee... you'll not be disappointed!!
Anyway, off we went along the beach and what a beautifully mild morning it was, loads of people down there with smiles on their faces, enjoying the weather while we all can......

Saturday 11th Oct Horrible week this week; my gorgeous Aunty Lill's funeral was on Thursday. Lost both my lovely Dad and Aunty this year...I, for one, cannot wait to see this year out, it's been really crap. At least she's reunited with my Uncle and yesterday would have been their wedding anniversary so, after 20 odd years apart, they are finally celebrating together again💕

Tuesday 7th OctAwww what a lovely meander and catch up we had today. We drove over to meet Suzanne, a friend and ex-colleague of mine and her pooches, Poppy & Alfie.
She lives in a lovely suburb of Newcastle just across the road from Armstrong Park which meant we were straight out of the car and into the park! No leashes needed here!! It's such a lovely, peaceful place, walking through the park and into Jesmond Dene where we followed along the river, then up and out and into Jesmond itself. As we chatted, we were heading for the delights of the Pink Lane Bakery and, oh my, we weren't disappointed! I indulged with one of their Pastel de Nata's and was instantly transported back to Lisbon 🤣
Took the short cut back through the estates, more chatting, more laughing and the promise to meet up again soon and just like that, 3hrs had passed!

Tuesday 7th OctSo today I decided to stay local as I wasn't feeling too grand🙄
I was out in the morning and ended up coming home and going back to bed as my tummy felt 'a bit iffy'! It did the trick though as, a few hours later I woke up feeling much better so shoes tied, coat on, poop bags grabbed and off we go!
Just local though.
We are lucky enough to live near a beautiful park with areas for children to play, football, bowls, a doggy park, skate park and a large grass covered and landscaped hill that provides a habitat for numerous wildlife. The hill was formed from the old spoil heap from West Cramlington Colliery. Anyway, one of our regular walks is round the hill then up and over a couple of times and, as I didn't want to wander too far from home, this was where we went.
It wasn't until we got back home and I looked at my watch in order to stop it recording our walk that I realised I hadn't even started it! Honestly, I know I've mentioned before but.. the joys of a flamin menopausal mind🙄😳🤪

Sunday 5th OctWhat a glorious morning!
As some of you may know, we like a wander along the beach on a Sunday morning usually with a Greggs, however; we're not adverse to a Cooplands every now and then either!
This morning though, was completely different; after the fresh air of our valley walk yesterday and possibly the exercise of jumping across the stepping stones, The Hubster felt remarkably better👍 after creaking out of bed, more like an energetic sloth than a spring lamb, he announced he was 'going to the football!' (like we thought he wouldn't🙄🤣) so, after loading him up with Day Nurse and dinner money off he trotted leaving Jack and I to our daily meander 👍
They've just put a Greggs concession in a petrol station which is located dangerously close to our estate and that formed the outline of our walk! We'll take the long cut to get there, so that's what we did! A lovely, if breezy wander in the sunshine around our local park, off through the farmers fields, past the pond with the swans, into Greggs, through the graveyard, scrumping windfalls in the orchard, home. BOSH! Now to get ready for work 🙄🫤🤣

Sunday 5th OctAwww what a lovely little wander we had this afternoon. The Hubster felt he needed some fresh air so came along with us and, as he's been really quite poorly this week, testing positive for COVID yesterday🫤 I decided to overlook the fact that he was out in public wearing his flamin drainpipe joggers! 🤣
We stayed near home just in case he started to flag and needed to return home but all was fine and dandy! We headed out across the farmers fields towards the stepping stones and came home a little wind battered but thoroughly invigorated.....and with a bag of field mushrooms for tea!

Saturday 4th Oct🎵🎶 What a difference a day makes....🎶🎵
from sweating in the stepping stones yesterday to being soaked by Storm Amy today 🙄
We've all been under the weather, for want of a better expression, this week and so the first part of our walk took us along to our local shops for mince, onions & suet. Leaving The Hubster with strict instructions to provide some comfort food for our return as we were about to take on the elements in order to complete our 3 miles.
And boy did he fulfil the brief!
As I opened the front door, I was instantly transported into the Bisto ad with lovely Linda Bellingham serving up a Sunday roast with lashings of gravy! Only ours was mince, herby dumplings, mashed po-TAY-toes with lashings of gravy 😁
Jack's bowl was devoured in seconds, I was handed my bowl of heaven and directed into the living room where the wood burning stove was alight and radiating warmth that added another level of comfort.
If Calsberg did bliss.....
