Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I’m taking part in the TCS 2025 London Marathon for Parkinson’s UK and would really appreciate your support!

Please help by sponsoring me with whatever you can. The money raised will help fund groundbreaking research and change the lives of the Parkinson's community.

My updates

Marathon day…

Sunday 27th Apr
But not for me. First run in months, thanks to long COVID. Instead I managed a 30 min run. Round 2 for training, can’t wait to participate in the London Marathon, running for Parkinson’s UK 2026.

12 weeks to go

Sunday 2nd Feb
So I’ve been terrible at keeping a log of how I am getting on- something I was really keen to do to look back on after the event has passed.

BUT… I have been less terrible at keeping up the training. According to my training plan, I am on track and I am loving the freedom I feel when going for a run- it really is helping to clear my mind (not sure my legs are loving it quite as much!).

Currently a typical run involves listening to an audiobook, planning an upcoming lesson, or super loud 00’s workout tunes. It really has allowed me the opportunity to actually have time to think. Will I keep it up after the training… we shall see, but working out will definitely continue to be on the agenda.

Feeling good! 👍🏼

3 weeks later

Thursday 29th Aug
So I had all the best intentions to keep a journal of my journey, something to have to look back on after all the energy spent getting ready for the marathon. Well, I may not have been writing, but I have been running- which I guess is the most important part.

In the past 3 weeks, my training app has had me doing yoga (which I am terrible at it seems), interval runs (which thankfully I am better at), and all sorts of different distances and paces.

I’ve made it to 4 miles, but I’m not sure I’ve found my ideal pace yet. I am finding that my mentality and my mood is setting the pace, going that little bit quicker when I’m feeling good and of course slower on the days I’m finding are more mentally challenging. I’m hoping a perfectly comfortable pace will present itself as the runs get longer.

I think the biggest challenge upcoming is running alongside being at Uni. The pressures from the PGCE, balanced with the impending darker nights (which I’m not looking forward to being out running in) are going to be off putting, but regardless, the updates on my progress will continue, as must I.

Wish me luck! 🍀

Here I go again…

Tuesday 6th Aug
So this post is nothing to do with Whitesnake and that amazing song, and with the sheer amount of support I get (particularly from my hubby), to continue the lyrics would be an insult!

No, I’m referring to my silence after writing a month ago and pretty much not running since 🙈. Between getting organised ready to start my PGCE, the two little ones and craving a break after finishing my degree, something had to give and it turned out to be running.

However, I’m feeling somewhat refreshed (are you ever refreshed with a toddler and an infant?!) and raring to go. Second time round I’m ready for the commitment that ongoing improvement takes and I’m all in.

Starting the fitness plan again feels like the right thing to do, so the 25 min run today was an easy, but good start. Onwards and upwards!

Ready… Steady…

Monday 8th Jul
Go! And the training has started (a week later than expected thanks to poorly children). On a Coopah programme to build up to half marathon to start off with, so, so far we’ve had a 30 min run and some strength training.

Feeling mentally prepared for the longevity of the plan and most of all positive!

Long live that feeling!

Getting geared up!

Sunday 30th Jun
Getting ready for a marathon has been fun so far… we have been shopping! Since I’ve not done much running at all since before Theo was born (yes the oldest - 2.5 years ago!) my running wardrobe strangely hasn’t got the memo that my body has changed quite a bit since then! So obstacle 1 has been a fun one in getting the right clothes. Just a trip to Run and Become to do and we will be ready!

The real work starts this week with a few 5ks to ease myself back in. Will keep you updated on the progress (providing the 5ks don’t kill me off) 😅
