Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I’m so excited to be taking part in the TCS 2026 London Marathon for Parkinson’s UK and would really appreciate your support!

Every 6 minutes, someone is diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD). PD is the fastest growing neurodegenerative disorder, with 1 in 5 people being diagnosed with PD worldwide.

Parkinson’s Disease has affected both the Deary and Cross families. My Grandad was diagnosed with PD and lived with the condition for many years. It effected his walking, balance, posture and speech.  He was not someone to ever give up, and he kept pushing through everything PD threw at him. Unfortunately, he lost his battle after sustaining a fall, which was caused by the symptoms of PD.

Parkinson’s UK are a charity that’s there to support every Parkinson’s journey, every step of the way. They campaign for better health and care, and they fund research into ground-breaking new treatments. They also run life-changing support services for people with Parkinson’s Disease and their families.

This is a huge challenge for me, and not something which will be achieved easily. I would describe myself currently as a fair-weather park runner at best. I am a mum to Sebby (3) and Amelia (18 months) and I work 4 days a week as a Neurological physiotherapist. It will be a challenge to fit in training runs alongside these commitments, especially in the dark, cold and wet months approaching, but I am determined!

Please help by sponsoring in whichever way you can. Any help will be appreciated whether that is a donation to my fundraising page, sharing my page on social media, attending my fundraising events, baking a cake to donate at a cake sale, or running alongside me during my training. The money raised will help fund ground-breaking research and change the lives of the Parkinson's community.

Cake Sale 22/21/25

Tuesday 25th Nov
On Sunday we hosted a cake sale at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. What a success it was, so many people attended and enjoyed the cakes on offer and we raised a huge £758.20!!!!
Thank you to everyone that made and bought delicious cakes, we couldn't have done this without you.

Together, we have smashed my fundraising target of £2300 which is the required entry fee for the London marathon. But if anyone would still like to donate to Parkinson's UK all additional proceeds will go to supporting people with Parkinson's and hopefully finding a cure in the future.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me on this journey.

October

Saturday 1st Nov
This month has been a difficult one. I have only managed to run for 3 weeks as we were on holiday the first week, and this week I haven't been well. But with that said, I am really pleased with the mileage I have covered in those 3 weeks! Runs are now feeling much easier and enjoyable. I feel like I could keep going for a little while longer before I have to stop, but I'm trying to be cautious with my training to avoid injuries.
Ziggy is a great running partner, always happy to go out and he seems to have my running pace down to a T, just running along next to me!
I am excited to see what I can do next month, increasing the runs a little further and having a whole 5 weeks to clock up the miles.

22nd November we have a charity  quiz night arranged. The quiz will be hosted by "Glens Charity Quiz Night" and have a raffle at half time with some amazing prizes which have been donated by local companies. We have 3 more tables available so if you would like to join us just send us a message!
Thanks for all your support!

September

Wednesday 1st Oct
1 month into training and it feels like it is going well. Training programmes don't official start until 16 weeks out, so I have been just trying to run regularly and get the miles up. It was a difficult month to squeeze runs in as family life has been busy enjoying the last of the summer sun. But after this week the evenings will be more free.
I have been getting out 3x a week. Completing a long run (6-7 miles) at the weekend, a recovery run and a "fast" run. I reached a couple of milestones this month.. my fastest 5k since pre Sebby, and my longest run since Sebby. Great foundations to build on!
Huge thank you to Kerry and Digby who have been joining me on my longer runs, the company has been fab!
Looking forward to what October brings, although a little apprehensive about the darker evenings.
Thank you for everyone's support, it means a lot 💙

Training Run 1

Sunday 31st Aug
I completed my first training run on Saturday.
Plan: run as far as I can in the time I had available. I managed 5 miles which I was pretty happy with. It felt like a good baseline to start from.

Thank you to my sponsors
