Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

This October, I’m taking on a challenge that means a huge amount to me: walking 90 miles to raise money for Parkinson’s UK.

My lovely mum has Parkinson’s. She was diagnosed when she was just 67 and over the last nine years I’ve watched this horrible disease take away so much of what she once took for granted.

Parkinson’s isn’t simply a tremor. It attacks movement, balance, speech, energy, sleep, personality and so many everyday things that most of us never have to think twice about. It is unrelenting and exhausting.

My mum has devoted her whole life to taking care of her family. She’s kind and loving and funny and for her to lose so much of the life she once had is heartbreaking.

So this October, I’m rounding up my dog, Pippin, and we’re walking 90 miles in support of my mum and everyone else living with Parkinson’s.

I hope that by doing it I can raise some money to support Parkinson’s UK work to improve lives, fund research and move towards a future where this cruel disease can be beaten.

If you’re able to sponsor me, however much you can give, I’d be incredibly grateful. Every pound will make a difference and whatever you’re able to give will mean a huge amount to me and my family. If you’re not able to donate, sharing this page would also be a wonderful way to help.

Thank you for supporting me, and especially for supporting my mum.

Both my mothers-in-law had this cruel, hideous disease. I hope your walking gives you some zen moments, Elizabeth; I know it's really difficult to watch someone you love deteriorate in so many areas of their life xx
