Running for My Mam: Supporting Parkinson’s at the GNR
Sunday 25th Jan
This year I’ve somehow decided it’s a good idea to run the Great North Run… for the first time. Yes — my first time. I’ve gone from “I should really do more steps” to googling chafe-prevention tips and pretending I know what carb-loading is. If you see me jogging around looking confused, just know I’m “in training”.
But this year it’s not just about ticking something off a bucket list — it’s about something much bigger. I’m running for Parkinson’s.
Earlier this year my man was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. It’s one of those moments that hits you in the chest and changes everything. As a family, we’re learning what Parkinson’s really is: not just a tremor, but a progressive neurological condition that affects movement, confidence and day-to-day life in ways most people don’t see. It affects around 153,000 people in the UK and right now there’s no cure — only treatment to help manage symptoms.
So I’m running to raise money for vital research, better support, and ultimately a future where families like ours have more answers and more hope. Every donation — big or small — genuinely makes a difference. It helps fund helplines, supports families, drives research and pushes us closer to breakthroughs.
Training has officially begun (send help), and on race day I’ll be running with my mam at the front of my mind and all of your support behind me.
Thank you so much for reading, sharing and donating — it honestly means the world.
🧡 Let’s do this!!For my man and for everyone living with Parkinson’s.
