Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
This year, I’ll be running the London Marathon in support of Parkinson’s UK, a cause that is very close to my heart.
Parkinson’s is something that has touched my family personally, and through that I’ve come to understand just how important the work of Parkinson’s UK is. They fund vital research, provide support to families, and are working toward better treatments and ultimately a cure. Being able to contribute to that, even in a small way, feels incredibly important to me.
Late last year, I was diagnosed with a nasty femoral stress fracture, which forced me to stop running completely and I was in crutches for 6 weeks. It was a difficult time, physically and mentally, to go from training most days to not being able to run at all. There was a lot of uncertainty around whether I’d make it back in time for London, and the focus quickly shifted from a PB to simply recovering to get to the start line healthy, and I'm on track to do just that!
