Just Bloody Donate Mate!

Over the space of six days this October, I’ll be taking on two challenges to raise money for a cause that means a great deal to me. On 5th October, I’ll be swimming the Posidonia Open Water 5km race in Ibiza, before lacing up my running shoes alongside my better half, Rosa, for the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 11th October.

As many of you may know, Rosie’s old man, Sir Nige, has been battling Parkinson’s for many years. Seeing this disease first-hand and the impact it has on daily life has been both humbling and heartbreaking. Parkinson’s is far more than just a tremor. It affects movement, independence, confidence and countless everyday moments that most of us take for granted. Watching someone I hugely care about face those challenges with courage and determination every single day really brings home the importance of funding research, improving treatment options and supporting those living with the condition. Sir Nige is an absolutely inspiration for anyone suffering with this disease and takes every challenge he faces by the horns and head on, no matter the difficulty! 

Alongside this is also for me old mate Ed’s old man, Big Mike. A familiar face on the touchline of the rugby pitch for years, always armed with good patter after the game and, more often than not, a Guinness in hand. Parkinson’s has touched Mike’s life too, and seeing another great man battle this cruel disease is a reminder of just how many families are affected. So this one is for you as well, Mike.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help support the incredible work being done to improve the lives of people living with Parkinson’s and, one day, hopefully find a cure. Thank you for your support, encouragement and generosity. It will make every metre of the swim and every mile of the run that little bit easier. As you all know - I’m a big goose……….
