Why I’m Running the London Marathon for My Dad
Monday 17th AugIn 2022, at just 50 years old, my Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Like many families, we knew very little about the condition before it entered our lives. Parkinson’s is often associated with older age, so receiving that diagnosis so young came as a huge shock to all of us.
Over the last few years, I’ve watched Parkinson’s change everyday life for my Dad. Things many of us barely think about; walking, balance, and simple daily tasks, can now be much more challenging. Seeing someone you love lose some of their independence is incredibly difficult, but what has stood out most is the way he has faced it all.
Despite everything, my Dad approaches each day with determination, humour and courage. He continues to adapt, keep moving forward and make the most of life, even when Parkinson’s makes that harder. His attitude has inspired me more than he probably knows.
That is why I’m running the London Marathon and raising money for Parkinson’s UK. The charity provides invaluable support to people living with Parkinson’s and their families, while funding research into better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
Most importantly, I’m running for my Dad. Every mile is a tribute to his strength and a way of giving back to a cause that means so much to our family.
Thank you for supporting me, Parkinson’s UK, and everyone affected by Parkinson’s.
Go Becci, you're awesome xxx
