Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Wednesday 28th MayFor me, this walk feels like a very BIG adventure, and I appreciate any encouragement you can give me. This might be by attending the event as part of Team Muzzy or through a donation.
I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at 47 years old, nearly 8 years ago. This was not something I planned to happen in my life. I juggle my medication with my food; to make it work to the best it can, optimum fluidity of movement is precious to me. Walking in nature, albeit slowly, Swimming and Drawing/Art are key activities which support my physical and mental health.
As many of you know, I have just retired from my role as Junior School Headteacher, which was a joyful experience for the past 10 years and teacher for 30 years, to cope with living with Parkinson’s Disease. I have put one foot in front of the other and kept moving forward, at times a shaky forward. I am working hard to reframe my thoughts to think of the positives. These include thanking my inspiring consultant neurologist, my GP, all the medical professionals who have helped me and continue to help me.
With a positive mindset, it means that I do not just hope but I am certain that a cure will be found for Parkinson’s. I am confident in this belief as an educator, after all, it is the pupils we are teaching now who are our future. It is in safe hands.
Parkinson’s has brought me the continued positivity of family and friends. Thank you, also, to my school family who have recently donated to Parkinson’s UK.
