Parkinson's UK in Honour of my Nan and Grandad
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I’m taking part in the 2027 TCS London Marathon for Parkinson’s UK on Saturday 24 April and would really appreciate your support!
Running the London Marathon isn't just a personal challenge for me, it's a chance to honour two of the most important people in my life.
We lost my Nanny and Grandy within six months of each other after years of watching Parkinson's change not only the life of the person living with the disease, but also the life of the person who loved and cared for them. Their story is the reason I'm running for Parkinson's UK.
My Grandy was the kindest, gentlest, and most stubborn person I knew, especially when it came to fighting Parkinson's. He was a talented pianist and author who eventually left his job to pursue his passion for writing full-time, leaving behind a collection of poems and books that our family will treasure forever.
He loved the simple things too, especially walking along the cliffside and beach near his home. Those walks became part of how he managed his Parkinson's, but as the disease progressed, they became harder and harder. Watching Parkinson's slowly take away the things that made him who he was, from writing and playing the piano to simply going for a walk, was heartbreaking.
Nanny was beside him through every step of that journey. They loved each other deeply, and seeing the emotional and physical toll Parkinson's had on her as his carer showed me that this disease affects so much more than the person diagnosed.
I'm running this marathon to honour them both. Grandy showed me incredible determination in the face of Parkinson's, and Nanny showed me what love and strength truly look like. I hope that through fundraising I can help Parkinson's UK continue to fund vital research, support people living with Parkinson's, and make sure families and carers never have to face this journey alone.
If you're able to donate, no matter how big or small, thank you! Your support will help me honour the incredible people my Nanny and Grandy were, while helping Parkinson's UK continue to support the amazing work they do.
