TCS London Marathon Saturday 2027

Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

As many of you will know, my Dad, Lindsay, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s almost 10 years ago, not long after he’d started an incredibly well-earned retirement. It has turned out to be a severe and complex form of the condition, and after an initial slow progression, things deteriorated significantly over lockdown and have continued to since. I’ve seen first hand how cruel and unpredictable this disease can be — particularly how much it takes from someone’s independence.

After years of trying to get a London Marathon place, I finally secured one for the Saturday race in 2027. Perfect timing to get back into distance running, what with a newborn providing plenty of rest!

I’ve chosen to use the opportunity to raise money for Parkinson’s UK. They fund research into treatments and a cure, and just as importantly, they fund the practical support for people living with the disease (more info on Parkinson's UK is below).

My finger in the air, never run a marathon before target is 3:30–3:45. Anything you are able to give is greatly appreciated — in return, I’ll do my best not to tear a hamstring...

We’re Parkinson’s UK. The charity that’s here to support every Parkinson’s journey, every step of the way. Wherever you’re from, whatever you need.

We don’t wait for change, we make it happen. We believe that together we’ll find a cure. But that’s not all we’re working for. We campaign for better health and care, fund research into groundbreaking new treatments, and run life-changing support services.

Families, volunteers, campaigners, fundraisers, scientists, health and care workers. We’re a powerful community united by one mission: improving life with Parkinson’s.
