Pedal Trossachs 2025

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I'm taking part in Pedal Trossachs for Parkinson’s UK at the end of August and would appreciate your support!

Please help by sponsoring my cycling challenge. All the money raised will go to Parkinson’s UK's work in support of their UK wide physical activity and exercise programmes with the aim of helping people with Parkinson's get active and stay active.

Made it!

Sunday 31st Aug
Made it round - was hard work today.  It started pretty cool and wet, but warmed up and the wind got up.  This was good, as it was dry by the end, but bad, as there was a lot of headwind.  I was pretty cooked by the end. The second half of the ride, I was solo, so had plenty of time to think.  I wasn't considering giving up, but thinking about the concept of giving up.  If I had turned for home at Fintry, rather than continue up Carron Valley, or simply stepped off in Kippen, that would have been a choice by me.  I would be in control.  Remembering Dad, he never had such a choice with Parkinson's.  It is not a disease one can walk away from through treatment.  In the later stages, he didn't really understand that he had anything.  I don't have some big, deep conclusion from this, other than to be grateful that there are organisations like Parkinson's UK that provide support and advice of sufferers and those who care for them.

Dad

Saturday 16th Aug
For those that don't know, Dad died at the end of June.  Like all Parkinson's sufferers, he died with Parkinson's rather than of it.  It was pneumonia that he died of; something that Parkinson's made him more vulnerable to catch and less able to resist.
The funeral went as well as one could have wished.  Because Dad had been deteriorating mentally due to the Parkinson's for quite some time, the Dad we used to know hadn't really been with us for a couple of years.  So it felt like we had done quite a lot of grieving in advance.
