Hay-on-Wye

Sunday 31st May

Final Push - Books, a Castle & Hay!

Sunday 31st May
It has been a whirlwind weekend, staying with my family in a cottage  near Crickhowell, so we were able to visit The Hay Festival at Hay-on-Wye. Lots of walking, visiting Hay Castle, talks and of course BOOKS!  I managed to just get enough steps in - it’s less than I have done in previous years but given the challenges I have faced this month I am pleased to have just crossed the line!

Willow my Walking Buddy

Saturday 30th May
As Willow was joining me on many of my walks, I bought her a Parkinson’s bandana. A lady saw it when Alex was walking her the other day and gave them a £3 contribution towards the fundraising. Alex didn’t get her name but if she sees this we have added it to the fundraising page and it’s a BIG thank you from me too.

Back on Track!

Tuesday 19th May
The rest last week seems to have helped a lot and I am cautiously back on track.
Enjoying exploring the beautiful green spaces close to where I live again. It is lovely to see the flowers coming out and to hear the birds singing. (Even in the rain 😉)

Slow and Steady!

Tuesday 19th May

‘Slow & Steady’

Tuesday 19th May
Sometimes things don’t go according to plan and you have to take a step (or three) back to carry on!
Last week I was in a lot of pain with my knee (arthritis flare up) and lower back (old issue with my piriformis). After taking advice I reluctantly rested for 3 days, doing the bare minimum of steps.
I decided to adopt the mind set of the tortoise and go slow and steady to enable me to finish the challenge

Walking Tour - Day 9

Tuesday 12th May
Very different walk today - I joined a walking tour, organised by Newport City Council and Monmouthshire Railway Society. Very interesting to see the areas where rail and tramways once were. Definitely an educational and enjoyable way to get more steps in!

Lunchtime Walk - Day 6

Tuesday 12th May
I don’t have far to go to walk in a beautiful spot. Gorgeous walk in the local wood, bluebells are out even saw bunnies hopping about in the sunshine. Lovely walk!

Lydney Harbour - Day 4

Tuesday 12th May
A different walk today, somewhere new for me. The sun came out and it was a lovely place to explore and bank more steps!

Wye Valley River Festival - Day 2

Saturday 2nd May

Wye Valley River Festival

Saturday 2nd May
Lovely day in Monmouth - I took it steady and managed to plod 5.7 miles, which helped top up my slower start yesterday.
Weather was kind and only started to rain as we headed home.  Also loved seeing the bluebells in the fields on the edge of the woodland.

A walk in the park

Friday 1st May

Day 1

Friday 1st May
Cautiously off the blocks!
Starting this years challenge with knee pain is going to be a very different experience.
I am opting for a ‘slow and steady wins the race’ approach, so this month my ‘spirit animal’ is going to be a tortoise 🐢
