Result!

Tuesday 10th Sep
So chuffed to finish in 2 hours 43 minutes (and only 15 minutes behind my husband!). I'm incredibly proud of this achievement. It's not something I ever thought I could do and feels an excellent way to mark my 60th year. Thank you to all my supporters and sponsors for helping me along the way. xx

Race Day!

Tuesday 10th Sep
A grey, drizzly day - it was a long, long wait to start the race, but I loved every minute of the run itself The atmosphere was amazing, there were bands playing all along the route and people cheering from the side lines all the way along. Miles 9-11 were hard going, but the final mile downhill and along the coast was great.

Two weeks to go

Wednesday 28th Aug
Shorter run this weekend - but running around Arthur's Seat was hard!

Race number has arrived.

Saturday 17th Aug

Three weeks to go

Saturday 17th Aug
Another long run this morning - tested out an energy gel in preparation for race day. This really helped me to keep going for for the second hour.

Four weeks to go

Sunday 11th Aug
So yesterday I completed my longest run so far. It was hard but I enjoyed running next to the Water of Leith under the trees and along the canal. Not long to go now - four weeks today!

Look what's arrived!

Sunday 11th Aug
Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me - here's my race T-shirt.

Seven weeks to go

Sunday 21st Jul
Seven weeks to go until the Great North Run. I managed a training run yesterday of about 90 minutes so was quite pleased. It's hard work though! Jelly babies help.

Training update

Saturday 6th Jul
I have been running three times a week since the beginning of March - building up from being able to just about manage 12 minutes to bring able to run for an hour.

In June, I had a two week holiday walking 100 miles along the South Downs Way, a national trail starting in Winchester and finishing  in Eastbourne. This meant no running for a fortnight, but I was walking around 12 miles a day.

I'm now back training again - with only 8 weeks to go, I can now run for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Still a lot of work to do before the race!

Welcome to my page

Saturday 6th Jul
Many of you will know that I do a lot of walking but am not, and never have been, a runner. However, I set myself the challenge of completing one half-marathon before reaching my 60th birthday in November.

I chose the Great North Run, having been a supporter last year and been inspired by so many people running for their chosen charities.

I have family and friends who have a diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease and wanted to support them by raising some funds for Parkinson's UK as I know how much support it can provide. If you are able to help by sponsoring me and contributing to this worthwhile organisation, it will really motivate me to keep training and get to the finish line on 8th September. Thank you so much.
