Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I’m taking part in the Great North Run on 7 September 2025 to raise vital funds for Parkinson's UK.
Please help by sponsoring me whatever you can. All the money raised will go to Parkinson’s UK nurses, to provide much-needed advice, support and information for people who are living with the condition.
Many people won’t know but my Grandpa lived with Parkinson’s for many years, he was a wonderful community man and was always out and about doing his bit. It wasn’t until 5 years after his passing I was approached by a small group of people living with Parkinson’s keen to help launch a unique weekly tennis session. Instantly I was sold on the benefits this session could offer Parkinson’s sufferers, not only physically but also mentally so we got to work and started planning.
We were initially fortunate to receive a small funding grant directly from Parkinson’s UK that helped us launch our initial 12 week trial block. 10 months down the line with a core of weekly attendees we have never looked back! I now find myself in a position where I want to do my bit to give back.
For those of you that don’t know me I’m a North East girl through and through and a HUGE Newcastle fan. I’ve never ran a half marathon in my life and until 2 years ago I’d not even ran a 5k so, the stars have aligned and here we are. I honestly cannot wait to spend the next 10 months training and fundraising for this fantastic charity the work and support they provide is truly inspiring!
In future months I hope to increase my fundraising target and hopefully reduce my goal finish time, but for now let the training commence!
Proud of you! I'm sure you'll smash it
