Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
I decided to apply to the 2025 TCS London Marathon 2025 and was lucky enough to receive a place on the Parkinson’s UK team.
In the UK, 2 people are diagnosed with Parkinson’s every hour, turning lives upside down and leaving a future full of uncertainty. On Valentine’s Day 2015 and aged only 50, my mum received her diagnosis. Since then we have seen and experienced the devastating impact of this horrible disease.
There are over 40 symptoms of Parkinson’s and even more side effects of the medication. It is a progressive neurological condition meaning mum will continue to live with this for the rest of her life. Her symptoms will get worse and daily tasks will become harder so if there is anything that I can do to support her, and everyone else suffering with Parkinson’s, I will.
The training will be tough and the legs will be sore but running the London marathon is a bucket list item and I know I can do it. My mum will always be my biggest cheerleader and knowing she will be there supporting me on the day will keep me going.
I will be forever grateful for all donations and support received and I know my mum will be too. Approximately 153,000 people in the UK live with the struggles of Parkinson’s everyday so a donation of any amount will be hugely appreciated. The money raised will be used to support those affected and also fund research into treatment and hopefully finding a cure one day.
