Alexander Powel

TCS London Marathon 2025

I’m fundraising for my dad, Roy Powel, who lived with Parkinson’s for 7 years and passed away recently.

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. My beloved dad, Roy Powel, passed away due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. He was a wonderful father, husband and friend to many over the years, and we miss him very much already.

Parkinson’s is a tough disease. Over time, it can rob you of your mobility, cognitive ability, social interactions and independence. It hasn’t got a cure, and the only prevalent treatment is medication to manage symptoms. Medical research is urgently needed to help the thousands living or yet to live with this disease.

To help raise money for this cause and in memory of my dad, I am running my first marathon, the TCS London Marathon 2025. Please support me, dad and Parkinson’s with your sponsorship.

The money raised will help fund groundbreaking research and change the lives of the Parkinson's community.

My updates

Well that didn’t go to plan 🏥

Tuesday 29th Apr
So there I was, lying in a medical tent in my underwear, covered head to toe on ice, surrounded by paramedics, not knowing what was going on 🥵🧊 Unfortunately, today did not go as hoped. I ended up collapsing with severe heat stroke just after 31km. The awesome St John’s Ambulance team took amazing care of me and got my temperature down from 40.9C to 38.5C in half an hour, which prevented any permanent damage. But I was very unwell and directed to A&E for tests. Needless to say, I’m gutted. I was determined to push through and keep going, but ultimately by body just is not well designed for temperature regulation. I want to say a MASSIVE thank you for every who support me before and after, and to everyone who donated. We raised an incredible amount of money for charity! I’ll get my marathon redemption soon (somewhere cold) - watch this space!

One week to go, and just one training run left!

Sunday 20th Apr
Hopefully, 7 days from now I’ll have a rehydrating beer in hand and London Marathon completed!

If you’re watching on TV or want to track progress on the TCS London Marathon App, search for my name or bib number 51620. Thanks for all the support so far!

Longest Training Run (32km) Complete - Just 3 Weeks to Go!

Sunday 6th Apr
Very much looking forward to the Marathon in three weeks time! Though, right now my legs feel like they’d rather not think about running again! If you’re in London on Sunday 27th, please come along and join the crowds of supporters - it’s an awesome atmosphere! Ps. I’d like to thank the weather for being so kind the past few weeks 😎

Thank you to my sponsors
