For our Dad who has courage to live with Parkinsons
I didn't know much about Parkinsons before my dad was given the diagnosis. What I will say is it is completely life changing, it can sap the joy out of every moment, and the symptoms can be so unbearable that one would rather not be on this planet. It takes a HUGE amount of courage to come to terms with a diagnosis and continue to live for the love of your family and friends. I am so proud of my dad for this courage!
Parkinson's Disease is often associated with tremors but it affects so much more than this. It affects domapine levels, related to mood, happiness and motivation. Meaning it's harder to motivate you to do things that will help you to feel better.
The drugs are pretty brutal, it takes time to find the right balance so your emotional state can fluctuate until the right balance of drugs is found. It's different for everyone so no "quick fix". Some drugs can make you constipated so you have to take laxatives daily.
Some people lose dexterity in their hands, struggle with balance, with memory, lose the sense of smell so food is less enjoyable.
There is an endless list, and there is so much more research to be done as each person experiences it differently.
I would LOVE to raise as much money as possible so that the science is there to inform us of how to best support people with Parkinson's live the fullest version of their life as possible. The cost of a coffee is enough, every donation will make a difference.
