Why we are fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Last long training run done (some in torrential rain)! Now keeping an eye on the weather -looking good so far! Thank you so much for donating and for your words of encouragement.
Back in September 2025, inspired by watching the TV coverage of the Great North Run, I decided to enter the 2026 event, accompanied by my ever supportive hubby, raising funds for Parkinson’s. Although we have taken part in the GNR several times in the past, this time it will be following my own diagnosis in 2024 (Rose). We have been training for this half marathon event since signing up and would really appreciate your support to get us through the last few weeks and the event itself.
Any money we raise will be split between PDUK and the Alex group. The Alex group is a local branch of PDUK which provides support for people with Parkinson’s and their carers. Weekly activities include physio and exercise classes (both online and in person), a singing group, massages and podiatry. There is a cafe for people to socialize at and various social events are organised throughout the year. A truly wonderful group!
Parkinson’s is a complex brain condition that has no cure and gets worse over time. It has more than 40 symptoms, from tremor and pain to anxiety. And Parkinson's is on the rise. Someone is diagnosed every 20 minutes in the UK today. By 2050, the number of people with Parkinson’s worldwide will double to 25 million.
