We go again…
After running (read: surviving) the London Marathon in 2022 – the year after my grandad, John, sadly passed away – I’ve decided to take on 26.2 miles once more to raise money for the same charity that is incredibly close to the Ibbott family’s hearts: Parkinson’s UK.
Parkinson’s affects around 153,000 people in the UK, is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world, and there’s still no cure. Parkinson’s UK is doing incredible work to change that – funding pioneering research, offering expert support, and campaigning for better care for those living with the condition.
- £10 could fund expert advice and emotional support for a carer navigating the challenges of a loved one’s diagnosis.
- £30 could help someone newly diagnosed speak to a Parkinson’s nurse, getting guidance tailored to their situation.
- £50 could pay for an hour in a research lab, helping scientists work towards better treatments – and one day, a cure.
The last time I ran the marathon I was dealing with some health challenges of my own, so things didn’t quite go to plan. This year, after lots of hard work (and carbs), I’m hoping for redemption – and every step I take will be in memory of my grandad.
