Great North Run 2024

Parkinson's UK

About 145 000 people live with Parkinson’s in the UK and each day more people get the news that they have joined that number.

I’ve been fundraising for Parkinson’s UK for 16 years now. It all started with members of my family running for the charity because my Uncle, David, was living with Parkinson’s. I quickly found that 3 members of my congregation were living with Parkinson’s too and since then I’ve got to know very many people living with Parkinson’s.

I’ve also got to know Parkson’s UK as a charity and I’ve seen how they support people living with Parkinson’s, their families and friends. They do this through local groups, through online and telephone helpline services and by helping the fund the vital work of Parkinson’s nurses. People living with Parkinson’s always speak very highly of the vital work of specialist nurses.

But Parkinson’s UK also fund vital research into Parkinson’s, it’s treatment and prevention. This is a charity that is working very hard not to need to exist. Though even when a cure is found there will be many decades of work to do to support those still living with Parkinson’s.

As I run the Great North Run on 8th September (my race number is 14560) please help me raise more money for this fantastic charity to support all the work they do.

In hopeful anticipation, Thank You.

My updates

Less than a week to go

Tuesday 3rd Sep
The Great North Run is this Sunday... where did the summer go? I'm looking forward to running for Parkinson's UK and catching up with people in the charity village. Last year's weather was... challenging; warm and very humid during the race and then Biblical rain at the end which got more media coverage than the race! Hopefully this year the weather will be milder. Well there is nothing we can do about it and the focus on the charities we are running for will keep us going.

Thank you to my sponsors
