Our reason for choosing Parkinsons UK
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page! We are taking part in the TCS 2025 London Marathon for Parkinson’s UK and would really appreciate your support!
We are running in memory of my father, Fergus' Grandfather, Jim Woodhead. He was a wonderful man, some might describe him as a bit of a "legend".
Dad suffered with Parkinsons for over 15 years, but in particularly the last 5 years of his life it was a constant struggle for him. One of the biggest challenges was mobility and that is why Fergus and I have decided that running a marathon is a good way of doing something in his memory. With 30 years age gap between us, one of us may take a little longer to get around the course (particularly with a dodgy Achilles) but we will take in the sights, soak up the atmosphere and hopefully raise some funds for a charity close to our hearts. And know that Dad would have loved to have been there cheering us on.

We did it
Monday 28th Apr
Running the London Marathon was truly an unforgettable experience. The crowds were absolutely incredible — we’ve never had so many strangers calling out our names with such enthusiasm. We were lucky to have a fantastic support team meeting us at different points along the route, giving us a much-needed boost each time.
The sun was shining — a little hotter than we would have liked — but London looked stunning, and we made it across that finish line. Fergus had an amazing run, finishing in 4 hours and 10 seconds (although his Strava clocked him at under 4 hours, so we’ll happily take that!). I took a little longer, stopping for hugs from all my wonderful supporters along the way, and finished in 4 hours and 37 minutes.
The final three miles were definitely the toughest, but running down The Mall, I thought of all of you — and especially of Dad. I know that before Parkinson’s, he would have been there cheering louder than anyone.
Thanks to your incredible support, we've raised over £13,000 for the charity. We’re so grateful to each and every one of you who helped make this possible.
And no — neither of us is planning to do another marathon!
