Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Parkinson’s is a cause very close to my heart. My wife and her very good friend Kirsty, jointly lead the community fundraising team. This powerful duo and their amazing team across the UK, have made huge strides and smashed fundraising targets, helping to fund vital research and improve the support and care available to everyone living with Parkinson’s.
The cause is also deeply personal to me because of my uncle, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at an early age. He underwent pioneering brain surgery that helped him live a more normal life, although I still cannot imagine the physical and mental impact the condition must have had on him and his family.
I’ll be running to support this important cause. My preparation has been hampered slightly because I’m currently receiving physiotherapy for a recurring injury (again!), but once I get going again, I’ll put everything I can into it and run as fast as my legs will carry me. I may be a little older than when I previously ran in Sydney, but those who know me well will know that I’ll give it my absolute best and get close to my time from my younger days. Currently trying to find out exactly what time that was, will update once I find it. In the process, I hope to raise as much money as possible.
It always feels slightly strange asking people to donate, although perhaps it shouldn’t when the money will go towards such an important cause.
As they say, every little helps, so please donate whatever you can.
Go on!
