Rob running The Great North Run for Parkinsons UK
I will be joining my Dad On Sunday 8th September in running the Great North Run for Parkinsons UK.
My Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in the summer of 2023 & it came as a shock to us all, more so to my Dad as you can imagine. Not long after his diagnosis my Uncle was diagnosed also. There is a likelihood that I too may develop Parkinsons at some point in my life.
In order to understand Parkinson’s better I have been listening to the Movers n Shakers podcast. A
Podcast my Dad has taken great comfort to on his journey with Parkinson’s.
Wanted to support Parkinsons UK with their research by raising vital funds to help them continue to do so.
Any donation no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated by not only myself, but by my Dad, others with Parkinson’s & Parkinsons UK.

Training Starts Now

Hope you are well.
Now it’s no secret that I’ve never really been a fan of or loved running. When I met Kate (my better half) she introduced me to the world of ParkRun. I began by volunteering, I liked the inclusive, friendly and community aspect. Truthfully when I began volunteering I didn’t really understand the “hype” as it were when it came to the lengths people go to in order to complete the quirky challenge, hit milestones or tick off a tourism location. Fast forward 18 months from my first involvement in ParkRun and I am now that guy who’s looking at the quirky challenges and looking for the nearest available ParkRun whenever we go away.
This year I realised I could do with running a bit more to help lose weight, improve my fitness & ultimately now prepare for the Great North Run.
I’m not very good at self motivating myself to go for a run, which is something I know I need to do as part of my training. What works better for me is having events to focus on, for instance I have signed up to run the Cardiff Bay 10k in May & Porthcawl 10k in July.
Which brings me on to tonight, the first running event on the Great North run journey. Now I’m use to running 5k on the Severn Bridge at 9am on a Saturday morning but tonight I’ll be taking part in the 5 mile Severn Bridge Twilight (Night) Run setting off at 1930. Wearing as many brightly coloured clothes as possible and hopefully catching a glimpse of the sunset.
Over the coming months I’m aiming to host a monthly online quiz towards the end of the month as part of my fundraising for everyone to enjoy, all I ask is a small donation. Any donation will be massively appreciated and help support Parkinsons UK with their research.
