My target 50 miles

Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

Starting 1st March 2025, I’m taking part in Run 50/50 to help Parkinson's UK support the Parkinson's community.

There’s no cure for Parkinson’s. Yet.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m not much of a runner - I can just about manage a Park Run every so often! However I'm uniting with thousands of others, all passionate about improving life for people with Parkinson’s and finding a cure and taking on the challenge of running 50 miles in 50 days! To add an extra element to the challenge, I’m aiming to complete 5 of the 50 miles on World Parkinson’s Day itself on 11th April.

Wish me luck! 🩵

My updates

Day 42

Friday 11th Apr
World Parkinson’s Day

I did it…50 miles!! 🥳🎉🏃🏼‍♀️😃🍻😭💪🏼

Day 41

Thursday 10th Apr
Final rest day before I aim to complete the challenge tomorrow. I’ve planned my route and set my alarm for early in the morning. I’m nervous, I’m not sure I’m ready for the extra distance…but then will I ever be until I actually do it?!

Day 40

Thursday 10th Apr
Much needed rest day today 😌😴

Day 39

Tuesday 8th Apr
Last run before the big one on Friday and a slightly longer pre tennis route than normal. My ankles were sore at first which was a bit concerning but they soon settled once I got going and I’m pleased I’ve kept up with my recent pace. Now to definitely focus on feeling relaxed, fit and ready for Friday morning! 💪🏼

Day 38

Monday 7th Apr
My ankle is feeling sore this evening…hope this isn’t a bad sign for my Friday run! Rest this eve with some cooling gel I think ahead of my planned shorter run tomorrow…

Day 37

Monday 7th Apr
A rest day today. Not many miles left now so planning my routes for the week… 🏃🏼‍♀️

Day 36

Saturday 5th Apr
A new route today at Bournemouth Park Run and it was quite a nice one with a mix of terrain but not too many inclines. Half way round though I was feeling quite uncomfortable for some reason and thought I might have to stop but it eventually wore off and unbelievably this should be another Park Run record in a row! 💪🏼🏃🏼‍♀️

Day 35

Friday 4th Apr
My usual Park Run is cancelled tomorrow so I’ll have to try a new one…going to give Bournemouth a go so hope I enjoy the course!

Day 34

Thursday 3rd Apr
Good job I did my run yesterday instead as this evening was a bit of a wash out! ☔️

Day 33

Wednesday 2nd Apr
Switched up tomorrow’s planned run to tonight. Found it hard today, not sure why but another mile and a bit banked which means I’ve hit 40 miles and have just 10 left to go!🏃🏼‍♀️💪🏼

Day 32

Tuesday 1st Apr
A later than planned start this evening so time was actually critical today! I just managed it, but 3 mins is def not enough time for my red face to settle before tennis! 😫😂🥵

Day 31

Monday 31st Mar
It’s great now the clocks have changed as it means I can do my evening runs in the sunshine and not have to worry about running where there are streetlights! I’m just curious how the harder I seem to find it and think I’m struggling, the faster my average pace seems to be?! A sub 10 minute per mile pace…I can’t believe it! 😃🏃🏼‍♀️

Day 30

Monday 31st Mar
Another rest day 😌🧘🏼‍♀️

Day 29

Saturday 29th Mar
Wow wow wow!! Cannot believe my time this morning…something must be wrong with my app! 😮 I pushed so hard, I can’t believe I managed to even cross the line and I definitely didn’t feel I was running my quickest. What do we think, sub 30 mins next week?! 😱💪🏼

Day 28

Saturday 29th Mar
Rest day ahead for another Saturday morning park run!

Day 27

Thursday 27th Mar
A quick run this evening as short on time. Not a PB but still a better pace than I expected! I keep wondering about my 5 mile run planned and when to do it, after this and feeling less energetic, I’m swaying more towards an early morning run…🤔

Day 26

Wednesday 26th Mar
Yesterday evening my ankle felt sore and tired so a rest day was definitely needed today. It’s feeling a lot better so hopefully will be back to normal ready for another run tomorrow!

Day 25

Tuesday 25th Mar
Another pre tennis run and another record time for this route! My legs are sore from the previous two runs so definitely ready for a rest day tomorrow. Maybe I should switch up the route for next week?!

Day 24

Monday 24th Mar
Back out after the race yesterday for two more miles this evening. Calf muscles felt a bit tight today but still managed to have a sub 11 min/mile pace which I’m very happy with 👍🏼 30 miles now complete…3/5 of the way there!

Day 23

Sunday 23rd Mar
Bournemouth Bay Run complete and in a record time! 🥳 wow it was so hot, really thought my pace had slowed right down at the end as I thought I wouldn’t be able to manage it. It was quite a while before I stopped my tracker app so I was delighted when I received my official race chip time of 32:09! 🥳 The UV app said I would be ok without suncream today but knowing me, with the sun beating down today, hopefully I didn’t actually get burnt! Now to go get my t shirt 😄🏅

Day 22

Saturday 22nd Mar
Rest day today ahead of the Bay Run tomorrow…got my race chip number pinned to my Run 50/50 top all ready to go! 🏃🏽‍♀️

Day 21

Friday 21st Mar
Well this evening was a wash out ☔️ Hoping the weather picks up for the Bay Run I’ve signed up for on Sunday!

Day 20

Thursday 20th Mar
I had a bit of a cheat day yesterday as there were a lot of cakes and treats at work so I knew today might be hard! I wasn’t wrong but I pushed myself with the goal of retaining a sub 11 minute mile average pace and somehow I did and ran it over 2 minutes faster than the same route last week! Think this may be the tiredest I’ve been post run but it’s worth it as I’m now officially HALFWAY through the challenge! 🥳🙌🏼

Day 19

Wednesday 19th Mar
It’s quiz night tonight so no run today…getting myself ready for tomorrow where I’m aiming to reach the 25 mile/halfway mark!

Day 18

Tuesday 18th Mar
My third pre tennis run around Winton Rec and another minute knocked off my time! I can’t believe how much I’ve improved in such a short amount of time! Now to try and find some water before my lesson starts! 🎾

Day 17

Monday 17th Mar
After resting yesterday I was ready today to try and equal my park run pace and I think I did! Although I did drink a large glass of water right before I left which I soon realised was a mistake…running with a stitch is not fun! Desperately need some more water to drink now though! 🥵💧

Day 16

Monday 17th Mar
Definitely learnt to take a rest day after a longer run!

Day 15

Saturday 15th Mar
Second Park Run and it was a much colder start this morning. I prefer that as it keeps me cooler for longer. It was a special 400th event day today so there were pace makers. Sprinting past the 34 minute pace maker near the end could never have felt better! My fastest time for a 5km/3 miles to date and 2 minutes faster than last week! 🥳💪🏼 And now 20 miles of the 50 complete! 😃

Day 14

Saturday 15th Mar
A rest day today to prepare for the next Park Run tomorrow!

Day 13

Thursday 13th Mar
Back after my much needed rest day yesterday. Started off wondering if I’d be able to do my planned 2 mile run for this evening but found the more I ran, the more I felt I wanted to keep going! More rest needed again now 😆🥵

Day 12

Wednesday 12th Mar
And relax…😌🧘🏼‍♀️

Day 11

Tuesday 11th Mar
Another pre tennis run. Quicker time this time and I do feel my pace is picking up a bit but still feeling very tired today. I keep having to remind myself that I’ve gone from running pretty much no miles a day to having ran 14 in the last 10 days! Definitely ready for a rest day now! 🥵😴

Day 10

Monday 10th Mar
Back to a shorter route this evening but it was hard. I’ve felt tired today and it’s my first run where I’ve had to encourage myself to go. However another mile complete and hoping I feel more energetic tomorrow 💪🏼

Day 9

Sunday 9th Mar
I had a surprise through the post when I got home yesterday…my official Run 50/50 top had arrived! So this evening was my first run wearing it. I found it harder today, perhaps still feeling it after Park Run yesterday. Anyhow, another 2 miles in the bank 👍🏼

Day 8

Saturday 8th Mar
First Park Run of the 50/50 challenge and my longest distance so far. Its great running with lots of other people as its great encouragement. Feel like jumping in the lake to cool down now 😆 Feeling slightly more confident I’ll be able to manage the 5 mile run on 11th April but still more practice needed 🏃🏽‍♀️

Day 7

Friday 7th Mar
I did have a run planned for this evening but decided to swap with my rest day tomorrow and instead start the weekend off tomorrow morning with a Parkrun! Let’s hope it stays dry 🤞🏼

Day 6

Thursday 6th Mar
After a rest day yesterday I felt ready to go today! Don’t know if it’s the fact I’ve ran a few miles now, wore different trainers today or because I’ve worked out how to stop my fitness tracker when I’m finished quicker but I definitely felt my overall pace has got quicker! That being said, I’m very much now exhausted and ready to collapse again! 😆🥵

Day 5

Wednesday 5th Mar
Almost 6 miles complete, time for a rest day 😌🧘🏼‍♀️

Day 4

Tuesday 4th Mar
Evening run around Winton Rec this evening before tennis 🎾 Started well and was happy with my pace. Some unexpected uphills but I didn’t give up and walk so pleased with myself about that. Now to cool my red face down before my lesson starts! 🥵

Day 3

Monday 3rd Mar
Slightly longer route this evening. I think it’s getting a bit easier as I thought I would struggle today with my calf muscles feeling very tight but they felt fine whilst running. Definitely prefer running in the cool evening air than the afternoon sun!

Day 2

Sunday 2nd Mar
Two shorter runs today. Similar route to yesterday but minus the mud. Still tiring and my muscles are definitely feeling it but ready for the next run tomorrow!

Day 1

Saturday 1st Mar
Run 50/50 let’s go!

First 1.3miles down today…hard work and felt ready to stop by the time I reached the main road! However I raced on with my planned route. No doubt this is going to be hard work and I’m certainly tired and red faced now but here’s hoping the more I run, the easier it will get!  Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me! 😊🏃🏽‍♀️
