To raise awareness for the disease and to help people like my grandad John who suffers with Parkinson’s disease.
Hey it’s Annabel! On 27 April this year I am running the 2025 London marathon for Parkinson’s disease. I am running for this charity so people like my grandad can keep on enjoying the things they love to do in life and they don’t feel as if their condition is a barrier to them.
My grandad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 10 years ago but his positive mental attitude keeps not only him going but everybody around him. He loves to spend time in his garden, with his family and he loves to watch sport, especially his local side - West Ham. All of his favorite things are possible because of the scientific research and care from specialist doctors and in particular, the love and support from our family.
Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition. This means that it causes issues in the brain and unfortunately it gets worse over time. Approximately 153,000 people live with the condition in the UK. Fortunately for my grandad and many other people, through scientific research and his determination and strong will, he has been able to keep his Parkinson’s manageable. This is why it’s so important to raise as much awareness for this disease so we can finally find a cure.
However small or big your donation, it will all help towards not only finding a cure but will also help the people diagnosed to navigate life while living with the condition.
