What do the challenge ratings of each walk mean?

The long route distance of each walk has a challenge rating to help you decide if the route is appropriate for you. The definitions of these challenge ratings are:

  • Easy: No physical difficulties. The route, or most of the route, is easy to walk along with no particular, or very few, obstacles with an even, flat walking surface. The path type is generally accessible paths with the surfaces usually paved or hardened.
  • Moderate: Some moderate exertion required. At least one obstacle below knee height with possible harder sections along the route. There are narrower paths and slightly more technical, although mostly firm and stable surfaces. Rocks and other obstacles may be present.
  • Challenging: Some sustained physical effort required and uneven terrain. The path type will have steeper sections with rocky surfaces that require good coordination. The route could involve crossing streams or marshes.

Before taking part in a walk please ensure you fully prepare for the physical challenge of taking part and check with your doctor to ensure you're medically fit to participate in the event.
