Rob Deering's story

Rob Deering has been a proud supporter of Parkinson’s UK since 2007.He’s inspired by his dad, Barney, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2001 and lived with the condition for nearly 20 years.

Barney’s positive and proactive approach to life left a lasting impression on Rob. An influence that continues to drive him today, from running marathons to performing on stage. Rob has raised over £176,000 for Parkinson’s UK through an extraordinary mix of running challenges, quiz show wins (including £24,000 on The Weakest Link), and  founding Shake with Laughter, our annual comedy night that’s been bringing together comedians and supporters since 2012.

In 2025, Rob hasn’t slowed down. In May, he completed his 26th marathon in Edinburgh. Just weeks later, in June, he took on the Race to the King ultra marathon, running 100km through the heat in memory of his dad and in support of the Parkinson’s community that means so much to him.

Rob said: “Like some of my comedy colleagues taking part in Shake with Laughter with me this year, my life has been affected by Parkinson's. My dad passed away in 2019, having lived with the condition for more than 15 years. While he isn't able to come to my gigs any more, he still inspires me in everything I do, from comedy, running and quizzes, to raising awareness and funds for Parkinson’s UK.

“I'm hoping for a full house on October 6 at Cadogan Hall, so that we can raise plenty of money for people like my dad, whilst having lots of fun.”

Back for it's 13 year, Shake with Laughter returns with Rob taking to the stage alongside a brilliant line-up including Paul Sinha, Fatiha El-Ghorri, Tom Price, Gbemi Oladipo and more names to be announced.
